    An Amusement Park makes a wonderful physics laboratory. Here is some information from Six Flags Fiesta Texas, in San Antonio. Thanks to Clarence Bakken for his help. He got me hooked on using an amusement park as a learning laboratory.
    Here is student data collected. Only a few representative files are posted. The data is in Logger Pro. If the school does not have Logger Pro, a free 30 day trial can be downloaded from www.vernier.com.

    Probeware will allow you to gather and analyze data about the world around you. You will also be able to gather data over very short or long periods of time, things you could not accomplish using other lab techniques. Another advantage is that it collects and graphs the data quickly, which allows for more experimentation and detailed analysis. Also data can be collected that could never be measured with traditional equipment. This also models what is happening in university and industry laboratories.
    To get started you'll need:
    a probe or sensor to take a measurement or gather data
    an interface to connect the sensor to the device which will analyze the data (i.e. LabPro, Go Link, Easy Link etc.)
    a device and software to process and display the data (i.e. computer, Logger Pro, Logger Lite, graphing calculator, calculator programs)

    The LabPro connects to either a computer or a graphing calculator. It can connect up to four analog sensors (such as temperature, pressure, force etc.) or two digital sensors (such as motion detectors, photogates etc.). It can operate using batteries or an AC adapter.
    The Go Link connects directly to the USB port of a computer. It is much less expensive than the LabPro, but only allows connection of one analog sensor. The EasyLink is very similar, but connects directly to a TI 84 graphing calculator.

    There are quite a few free downloads from Vernier available. Click hereto review the options.
    The latest offering from Vernier is the LabQuest2. It has three analog and two digital ports similar to the LabPro, but has a color screen and can serve as a portable stand-alone device for data collection and analysis. It also has very powerful wi-fi capabilitites and several built in sensors.
    Vernier now has a variety of resources to use with tablets and even phones.
    Here is a link to a site by Clarence Bakken with many interesting lab ideas. Clarence is a Vernier consultant, with many years physics teaching experience in California.
